PackagesChoroa offers safari packages to all major parks and reserves in Tanzania. Listed to the left are a few itineraries and options for customizing your safari. Arusha National ParkArusha National Park is located 32km outside the capital city of Arusha, an easy day trip and the perfect place to start your safari. It offers an abundance of flora and fauna along with Momello Lakes, Ngurdoto Crater and Meru Crater. Here you have the opportunity to see antelope, giraffe, leopard, hyena, rhino, elephant, baboon and the colobus monkey, ensuring a well-rounded day of game viewing. It is a bird watchers paradise. Tarangire National ParkTarangire National Park is dense with wildlife, especially in the dry season when animals migrate from the Maasai Mara to the Tarangire River running through the park. The spectacular baobab tree, the icon of Tarangire, has the ability to survive in the driest weather. It is made up of 90% water and towers above the flat-topped acacia trees. Baobabs provide shade, fruits and leaves, while elephants use their tusks to dig into the bark for water in the dry season. Taragire is also rich in bird life, including many birds of prey. Lake Manyara National ParkLying at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara National Park consists of woodlands, swamps, and grasslands, a great example of how varied the landscape is throughout Tanzania. It is home to 350 species of birds, including migrating flamingos and storks as well as many large and small mammals. Lake Manyara is also home to the famous tree-climbing lions. Ngorongoro Conservation AreaNgorongoro Crater may be the world's largest caldera, but it is only a portion of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The crater has the climate and ecosystem to support lush flora as well as the arid savanna favored by plains animals and their predators. The central marsh and lakes support an abundance of aquatic life, including hippopotamus, crocodile and other reptiles. In the early 1900s the Maasai were still able to lead their cattle into the crater for the food and water, but since the separation of the Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Conservation Area the Maasai no longer wander the crater. Photographers, bird watchers, game watchers, and archaeologists are overwhelmed by the abundance here, which includes Olduvai Gorge where Dr. Leaky discovered the early Homo Erectus bones. He and his wife have built a museum at the gorge to share their findings and history of the research performed at Olduvai. Empakai CraterThe Empakai Crater (pronounced "m-PA-ki") is located in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and is a perfect destination for a day's hike. The crater is a short drive from the campsite in Ngorongoro and is a great alternative to the driving safari. The crater is often foggy when seen from the rim, but upon descent there is a great view of the crater floor. Here it is possible to walk along old cattle trails with an armed guard, viewing wildlife from a distance. Serengeti National ParkSerengeti National Park may be the best known destination in Africa, and for a good reason. This park is 14,763 sq km, covering the north central section of the country, nearly reaching Lake Victoria and extending to the boarder of Kenya. The Serengeti is the prime location for watching the famous wildebeest and zebra migration during the months of May and June. An early morning balloon ride over the Serengeti is a spectacular way to view the landscape and the many animals that live here, including cheetah, leopard, lion, giraffe, hippo and crocodile. |
